Critical Care Areas
Critical care nurses at AUBMC provide acute care for those who are generally unstable, critically ill, or in urgent need of careful monitoring and intensive treatment.
Our critical care nurses are:
· Compassionate and dedicated: at their most difficult times, patients and families are cared for with expertise and support.
· Trained to provide comprehensive family-focused care: education is continuous and specialized training opportunities are provided to all nurses.
· Geared towards continuous quality improvement: several performance improvement projects are undertaken based on patient and family needs.
· Keen on evidence-based practice and generation of nursing research
· Patient advocates and effective team players
· Proficient leaders: outspoken and engaged in shaping the critical care nursing practice
The Coronary Care Unit (CCU): 20 beds Specializes in the comprehensive care of all critically ill adult patients with complex cardiac diseases.
The Cardiac Surgery Unit (CSU): 4 beds Receives patients directly after cardiac surgery for recovery and stabilization before transfer to another unit in the hospital.
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU): 8 beds Specializes in the holistic care of all medical and surgical critically ill patients with single and/or multiple system failure.
The Respiratory Care Unit (RCU): 12 beds Provides comprehensive clinical care for all critically ill adult patients with complex respiratory diseases.
The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU): 13 beds Receives patients directly from the operating room for recovery and stabilization before transfer to another unit in the hospital.
